Egon Schiele's work is provocative, controversial, frightening, sensual, intimate, and beautiful. When I wrote these pieces, I explored each subject while imagining myself inside the portrait. I look into each painting, spend time with them, engage with them musically. There is also a certain queerness about his works that I connect with. I want my music to sound like it is coming directly from somewhere deep inside the recesses of Schiele's mind. Many lives lie within a simple portrait - from the artist, to the subject, to the mysteries far beyond our own comprehension. We can only speculate as to what the real story is behind an artwork. These pieces are my attempt at understanding this - bringing each to life with music.
