Egon Schiele's work is provocative, controversial, frightening, sensual, intimate, and beautiful. When I wrote these pieces, I explored each subject as if it was me who painted the portrait, while also imagining myself inside the portrait. I looked into each painting, spent time with them, engaged with them. There is also a certain queerness about his works that I connect with. I wanted my music to sound like it was coming directly from somewhere deep inside the recesses of Schiele's mind. Many lives lie within a simple portrait - from the artist, to the subject, to the mysteries far beyond our own comprehension. We can only speculate as to what the real story is behind an artwork. These pieces are my attempt at understanding the lives behind Schiele's portraits, bringing each to life with music.
